Report of Mawlid Interfaith Peace Conference 2014
The celebration of Mawlid un Nabi is the commemoration of the birth of Allah’s Beloved, the Best of Creation and the Leader of Prophets (peace and blessings be upon him); it is but one example of a celebration that is permissible and in total accordance with Allah’s decree.
Al-Mustafa Islamic Centre Ireland celebrated the Mawlid Celebration on Sunday, 26th February by organizing the 4th Annual Peace Walk & Interfaith Peace Conference .
This beautiful interfaith program was attended by over 250 participants. This Mawlid-un-Nabi celebration consisted of two parts ; The Mawlid Peace Walk & The Mawlid Peace Conference. Participants had come not only from Dublin but also from the following cities: Belfast, Ballaghdreen, Athlone and Longford.
The program commenced with the beautiful recitation of Quran by Qari Abdur Rahman followed by welcome speech by The Founder & President of Al-Mustafa Islamic Centre Ireland, Shaykh Dr. Muhammad Umar Al-Qadri. Shaykh Umar during his welcome speech asked the participants if they would like to hold the Peace Walk as the weather was very cold and the roads were slippery. The participants all expressed that they were not worried about the cold weather as their love and passion for Peace & Unity in following the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon Him) was burning in their hearts and would surely keep their bodies warm. The participants were then instructed to gather outside and prepare for the Mawlid Peace Walk. The Mawlid Peace Walk was lead by leaders of the Muslim and Christian faiths. The local Gardai (Police) under the leadership of the Community Guard Sgt. Vincent Conolly assisted the participants during the Peace Walk.
After the Peace Walk Asr Prayer was performed in the Islamic Centre. The Mawlid Peace Conference commenced with the beautiful recitation of Holy Quran.
Craig Considine, who is a lecturer at Trinity College Dublin and Roman Catholic American journalist and writer thanked the organization for the invitation gave an enlightening speech with the topic ” What Prophet Muhammad has thought me about Islam”. Sidi Abdul Quadri Lawal spoke about the beauty of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the importance of celebrating the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Reverend Alan from the Presbytarian Church thanked the organization for the invitation and spoke about the importance of inter faith dialogue and his experience in interfaith work. Adrian Christea, secretary of the Dublin City Interfaith Forum, also spoke on this blessed event highlighting the aims and objectives of the Dublin City Interfaith Forum. Imam Monsuro from the Dawah Group spoke about the importance of Loving the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and gave examples from the life of Bilal Habashi r.a. how he loves the Messenger of Allah.
Al-Haja Seidat Bashirat, renowned Nasheed artist from Nigeria, gave a beautiful nasheed performance praising Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in Arabic and in Nigerian language.
Students of Al-Mustafa Islamic School ;Ammad Rashid, Fadilah Salawu, Abdul Wasiu Ajayi, Anas Idrees, Sajjad Bakhshi, Zainab, Marifat and Naeemah delivered speeches on various different aspects of Islam and the Prophet of Islam.
The first session ended with a beautiful nasheed performance praising Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) by brother Sajjad Hussain from Ballaghdreen.
After the Maghrib prayer the second session was started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Shaykh Dr. Umar Al-Qadri shared a few beautiful examples from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that highlighted his beautiful character and personality. Shaykh Umar emphasized that Muslims should adopt the moral behavior and qualities of the Prophet.
Shaykh Qari Abdul Majid ,renowned Muslim theologian from the UK spoke about the importance of Peace and the contribution of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to Global Peace & Unity.
The Peace Conference ended with a prayer of Peace from the Holy Quran by Abbas Ali Khan from Belfast and dinner was served to the guests.
